So my boyfriend had a brilliant idea (sarcasm) to build a pond that is 5 feet wide and 8 feet long 2 feet tall. He tells me that the catfish redtail, tiger shovelnose, marble, lima, and the redtail tiger cross will be able to live in there for a while!?:screwy:(how long is a while) What happens when they out grow that what am I supposed to do eat them, sell them, keep putting money in them to buy more wood to make bigger ponds?

Awhile is ... Well... Awhile... this set up will last a few years 3-4 if properly filtered.

But since he is doing it already.. you might allow him to just build it bigger to begin with and save the money on "upgrades"... it's cheaper to dive in head long than to graduate through tons of tanks one at a time :D

If you can't tell... I'm on your boyfriends side here :grinyes: Check the signature and you'll see why

its already built and that was the maximum size that could fit down the stairs to his room so no upgrade for a while....and lol i have a feeling A LOT of people on this site will be on his side

Oh yeah!!! I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone that isn't!

So... Care to share this pond with the rest of us? Get him on here and sharing some pics

Ill let her take the pictures and post them but yes I am the builder total cost so far is $0 I used 4x4 2x6 2x4 all cedar and so far wrapped the inside with 2 layers of 5/8 OSB then doing a 3rd layer of 3/4 ply used ALOT of screws and have about 6 hours invested!

doing the insulation on the inside you lose some volume, but still should be good for a good while, i would say lose the lima before you lose the lima ;) if you know what i mean, just get a nice tank set up and drop it in with some small tankmates.

Those tank dimentions just beg for stingray inhabitants.
