So I get home last night to find that my roommate had dissapeared from my apartment. :irked: This dude just packed up all his crap and bailed on me. Now I am stuck in an apartment that I can not really afford by myself untill June.

This leads to the problem I currently now have. :( I have 2 Oscars, a JD and a 2 Plecos in a 55 gallon. I was planning on upgrading to a 125 g in the next month or so. Now obviously thats a serious problem. I could easily jump up to a 75 or maybe even a 90 but thats not going to be big enough for all of these guys. Now that the Oscars are hitting about 6-8" you can see there is def not enough room for the whole crowd in there. Thats why I was going to upgrade.

So, now I am left with all these fish and no way can I upgrade. So if anyone is interested in taking one or two of these guys off my hands please let me know. I think right now my new plan is to hopefully find a good place for all these fish and then swich to something that stays smaller.

That leads me to the suggestions part here...Since I wont be able to upgrade in the near future and will now be forced to move in a few months my thought is to restock the 55 with something that will be content in it untill the time I can upgrade for sure. So suggestions? Number of fish, what kinds? I figured I could get 5-6 maybe more of something that says in the 4-6" range? And get a Pleco that wont go about the same thing so everyone will be happy untill I can build up some savings again for a bigger tank. Is there a SA/CA cichlid that stays in that range and is still a real fun fish or will I be looking African?

Lastly, I have never really delt with a LFS before. If that is my only option can you really just bring fish there and they will accept them? Do they give you money or credit for them? If so does anyone have suggestions on a place to go to, or a place that would have some good selection of freshwater 4-6" range cichlids?

Obviously I dont really want to let the O's go, but I think I dont have a choice to be kind to them, its just not fair that they grow up in a tank thats obviously way to small, and now I have no other choice but to do something, hopefully sooner than later...

thats a real bummer, cant you find another room mate?there 10 a penny here,,ive always got a student in my flat

I probably could find another roommate, but my lease here is up in June, and I dont want to stay there anyway. So I am sure it will be hard to find someone to move in for 2.5 months, plus they have to go through the application process the landlord wont just let anyone move in. Its stupid. So now I am here...

You have LOTS of Options.

You could just keep 1 Oscar by himself with nothing in the tank. Others may frown upon this.

Depending on the sex of your current JD you could get him or her a partner and they should do well just the two of them in the 55. There are tons of other options depending on what your lfs has to offer or if you are willing to do mail order. Firemouths, Convicts, Cutteri, Sajica, Honduran Red Points, rainbow cichlids. Thats just Central americans. Also depends on if you want more of a community tank or a little more aggressive tank. Rams and Keyholes are pretty passive, but if mixed with Convicts would be in big trouble.

I have some honduran redpoints and I love them, they have bred a few times as well.

As far as the fish store, some may give you credit others wont give you anything, Oscars arent the easiest to sell unless they are under 5". They are looking to make a profit off your fish anyways.

I considered just keeping one, but I would feel bad for the guy being all alone in there. I also considered the pair of JD's, but I dont know, I really want more than just 2 fish. I am not even sure if the JD I have is male or female. I am leaning towards a tank with at least 5 or so fish in it.

Sounds like the best bet is to just call around to all the fish stores and see what they will say. I put them up on craigslist too, we will see if anything comes around. I really dont want to dump them in a LFS I would rather see them go to a good home.
