Here's a quote from the site....
Tankguard prevents algae from bonding with the glass meaning a simple wipe will remove any trace of algae without the need to completely empty and scrub your fish tank.
Algae is already removed from the glass with just a simple wipe, without the need for chemicals. It is a better practice to understand the reasons why algae forms in the first place and how to correct them.
A quote from their "How does it work?" section....
Ethanol-based Tankguard is made up of silicon dioxide molecules whose surface energy is modified by anti-bonding molecules. On application to the glass, silicon dioxide molecules from the coating and the glass surface start to bond together, releasing the anti-bonding molecules. These molecules migrate to the surface creating an ultra-smooth, protective outer layer, and changing the status of the glass from high to low energy. This low-energy status is fundamental to the repellent non stick qualities offered by treated glass.
Basically they are claiming their product will coat your glass with silicon dioxide, so you can wipe algae off of it. Silicon dioxide is just another name for silica sand, which is what glass is already made of, and you can already wipe algae off your glass pretty easily. They say it is ethanol-based, and it is applied by applying it to the clean, dry surface of the glass. They also state that it evaporates rapidly, and you must allow 24 hours at room temperature to allow the coating "to become completely inert". This leads me to believe that this product is probably nothing more than a couple packets of alcohol and some paper towels.
