Hey guys!

Having finally managed my 180 gallons bonded pair Aurantimaculata tank, with all that goes with it (namely, no tank mates), I am planning a new tank.

I've had Jardini and Silver, and I've grown quite fond of Arowanas (not quite as much as Channas, but big tanks for two fishes kind of limits the choices).

I would like my "base" stock list to be an African, an Asian and an Australian (I believe it's possible?), and there are two questions that I would like to ask:
- Is a 200 x 80 pattern big enough for those 3? (6.56' x 2.62' for you americans :D)
- Is there a problem with compatibility with any of the fishes from this list?
Hepsetus odoe
Datnioides X
Sorubim lima
Cichla kelberi
Lepisosteus oculatus
Brachyplatystoma juruense
Mastacembelus erythrotaenia
Channa pleurophthalma

Thank you. :)

You're going to need to upgrade eventually. I think you'll definitely have aggression personally. There's things you can do to try and lessen that. The aros are going to fight, Asians can be aggressive, but idk if they can be as aggressive as the average jar, so maybe you'd be better off with a lei. The odoe should be fine, but might get picked on. The dats should be able to hold there own. Cichla should be able to hold there own. Juruense is something I'd worry about. Snake heads idk much about. Pleuros seem to be non-aggressive. Idk if they'd hold their own. So I say to reduce aggression or to do it at all, you'll need a bigger tank to start with and dithers. Barbs, SDs etc.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to answer. :)

So it seems like the safest/less risky way of doing it would be to limit myself to an african, since they seem to be way less aggressive than any of the others. After all, I think it's my favorite anyway. ;)

I could always give it a shot, but that could turn out to be an expensive trial and error, so I probably will wait until I have the money and room for a tank twice the size (early 2016 if all goes well... But I don't like "probably" and "maybe") to even attempt it. That way, if fights occur, I will have somewhere to rehouse, as I am pretty sure rehousing with my auranti pair would be a dead <insert ANY fish name>.

I might have to limit myself to an Afro, my beloved cichla and a few odoes (unless I can finally put my hand on a few pleuros :O)

Thanks again for your time :)

Yes I'd say stick with waiting for a larger tank, or just get one, though I'm not sure on afros max size... Might wanna pay attention to that, I've never seen one much over 2 feet personally. Remember they're filter feeders so they need to eat small amounts daily.
