I'm currently workn on a 100 gal low boy. I ran across it at a yard sale. A old man had dibbies in it. The tank caught my eye as I was going down the road so I quickly made a u turn. Walked over to the tank and the fella asked how many would I like. Lol not needing any baby chickens I asked if the tank was for sale. 25 dollars later and the chicks found a home in a cardboard box lol. I've built a stand, sump, and canopy for it. As there are still some lose ends to tie up I'm about to refill with water and let it run for a few weeks doing a daily 100% water change due to the 3d back ground I've made for it. I'm more than excited about it. I have a few tanks running now and these will be where I stock the 100 gal from. Would like the mfk worlds thoughts on this project

Let me get this straight. .....
you MADE the background?
Please explain how because it looks amazing.

Yes I made the background. It's in three pieces and all plumbing and air lines are ran threw it so nothing will be visible from inside the tank. I took a piece of green foam board insulation from lowes an cut it to fit. Then cut it in three sections so it would clear my side braces. Then I took "great stuff" for ponds and pools. I lightly coated the whole board and then poured play sand over it. Have to do this quickly as the foam is only sticky for a really short period of time. Let it sit over night then dump off the extra sand. I then trimmed it down and painted it with krylon fusion spray paint. Let that dry and then very heavily coated with a satin poly. Of course I added the drift wood and the roots while the foam was still wet as I put the sand over it. I have some pics of this process. Might post a thread on it soon.

Great job! Really like that root system look.

What's going in it?

Yes, you need to do this otherwise we won't believe you ;)

WOW! 25 bucks and a custom DIY background looks amazing.

I wish I had the time to build! Maybe in a few years.

Thanks for all the compliments. I've worked very hard and put alot of time in this build. And have a ways yet to go. I'm going to be putting angels, discus, and blue rams in it. There will be a few small schooling fish also. Before everyone freeks out about angels with discus let me say I have them housed together now with great success. I've figured out how to feed them where everyone gets food. Even the slow discus. One fish i was debating about is putting a fire eel in there. I've personally never had an eel so if anyone else has your comments and advice would be greatly appreciated. Tonight I got the tank filled with water and air lines hooked up. Simulated a power outage and have my sump adjusted so it handles all the overflow. Gonna let it run for a week then drain and set up in the house. Add my substrate and sand. Let it run for another week with daily water changes. Then add my plants. Once again thanks for all the compliments on the build. Especially on the background. I just couldn't see paying 400 bucks for a background that I was still gonna have to alter and work on to make fit. I have about 65 bucks in the background and that's including my time. The stand and the canopy is a hole other story. I have more pics coming of the build so keep following and commenting. My goal is to be able to enter it in the tank of the month at some point soon. Thanks fish peeps!!!
