New pump

Today I got a EHEIM 1250 pump and 6 feet of tubing to create a sump under the tank. I tried setting it up by using a length of hose tubing to suck water from one end into a 10 gal tank and then pump it up to the tank at other with the EHEIM. The problem is the water comes in faster than it is pumped back out. What should I do?

Use a ball valve to restrict flow.

other end not pump, only one eheim
