i saw an ornate birchir for sale @£40 in my lfs(well 15 miles away). it was roughly the same size as my palmas pictured below. what i want to know is will it eat my senegal or delhezi (both same size- 4")??? also with 3 birchirs in the tank already, would there be any aggressiveness within the tank??? its quite peaceful at present and i only plan on adding a small clown knife in the very near future.

any help would be greatly appreciated as i dont want my little uns becoming a snack!

depends on ur bichirs do u feed live food? ive done it many times mostly good results but risky i lost 1 bichir loss as food bcuz i had been feedn feeders

you wont know until you try it out... it really depends on the fish. but if you do get the poly, just watch over closely just in case

IMO try to keep them full so they won't be attracted to chow down on the little ones or you might consider moving them to a grow out tank first till at suitable size before moving back

How about mixing silver dollars or tinfoils with your polys

I have a senegal and I would like to mix it with another bichir. I really like delhizi but I was worried about aggression. My senegal has never show the slightest aggression even towards small barbs, tiny clown loaches and a tiny spotted climbing perch. I also am looking to get a peacock eel and was afraid that the delhizi would be aggressive/eat him as well

At present i feed them with hikari carnivore pellets and live mealworms however the mealworms usually drown by the time the birchirs find them so they arent really live i guess.
as for mixing with tinfoil barbs or silver dollars, i plan on upgrading my tank to a 225 us gallon and adding a florida gar so i dont want to rehouse them as i would like to keep this tank as a grow out for future fish.
as for the clown knife and birchir combo, i dont really see a problem in that ive kept an african knife with birchirs before and had no problems at all but they are different species i guess so ill have to research that one.

i don't see why it wouldn't work, i'm keeping 4 bichirs from 8- 13'' with a 13'' clown knife and a 6'' ompock bimaculatus in a 75gal tank atm with no problems so far. i feed frozen with feeders as an occational treat(feeder goldfish, guppies, white clouds and crayfish) with no signs of aggresion between tankmates
