don't know much about sev's but you should alway's research before you buy. they look great tho and there are alot of sevrum lovers on this site that can help you out.

Urgh wrote up a big reply and the forums ate it.

You shouldn't have any issues with your Orange Heads and Severum. Myself and many others have kept them healthily together without any issues, which probably comes down to the difference in body shape and colour.

If you've got the tank size to support a reasonable sized shoal of Orange Heads (4+), plus these Severums, you shouldn't see any aggression between species. Severum are quite notorious for being either conspecifically aggressive or completely placid, however with 4 of them it should be spread out enough to not cause any issues.

However.

Change your tank to sand, seriously - and lose the slate setup while you're at it. A fine grain sand or soft substrate makes your Eartheaters 100% more interesting to watch.

Should be a sticky on this, pains me to see it.

Edit: Supplement their diet with a decent amount of vegetable matter. Skinned and diced peas are a good start, along with scalded Romaine Lettuce leaves.

Hi.. Nice eartheaters and rottks.:thumbsup:. As Japes suggests change the substrate to sand... you can get poolfilter sand at Ace.. It's cheap and cleaner than the playsands.. It looks great and the fish will love it.. especially the geos.. It's fun to watch them turning and sifting the sand 24/7:ROFL::ROFL:
I tried having the geo/sev combo in my 120 but my rottk was just too aggressive he went after my angels fins and I knew once the orangeheads got trailers he'd be after them too.. but others have succcessfully kept the combo.. With sevs, like any other cichlid, their temperment varies greatly.. you just have to watch the individual fishes behavior.. When it works, it's a great combo..
How big is your tank?? Thats gonna make a difference too.. Those sevs get pretty big and you may down the line have to remove some if the tank can't accomodate them and their personalities along with the geos.. Would love to see pics of the whole tank..:popcorn: Any other tankmates??
Good luck with the tank.. I'm sure some of the sev nuts will be along with info about them but there are numerous threads here on them.. just do the search thing. HTH Sue:D:D

Fully agree. Tapajos are sooo awesome and way happier in the right terrain. My Red Sev was a pr_ck and had to get rid of him... they too are super sweet looking when they get older.

I believe the males get the red "wormy" looking colors in their faces and females do not.

thanks for all the replies!!! i already do have the sand for the. i just have not had time to change it over. as for the tank, its 90. tanks mate are 4 severums(red shoulder) and 5 Geos (tapajos). they are getting ALONG wonderfully!!!
