I just got a new 180g tank. I want to put a ray and discus in the tank. I am just starting my research and am wondering what type of ray you guys would recommend. Also what about tank setup what kind of decorations(ie:rocks, drift wood, plants, etc) would be alright in a tank with rays and discus. Also, anyone who has pics of their discus ray setup would be greatly appreciated.

rays and discus can make a good combo. A 180 is not big enough for most rays for life. If you are not planning on upgrading soon then i would say Hystrix would be a good ray for a 180, or you can go for a motoro for about a year in that size tank..

hystrix or retics would be your best rays in general... motoros get huge and like to eat other fish...

ide be going retic, all the ones ive seen seem to be alot calmer.

motoro can be very boistrous, mine tryes to eat my flagtail and campbelli dat all the time. discus would have no chance.

I agree with everyone else, just go big on the filtration. You will be housing two of the more sensitive freshwater fish so water quality could be an issue down the road.
