I need help.. pro's?
I just got my new ray acclimated in the tank she is in, I noticed that she has black bumps on her like goosebumps.. She lets me pet her, So i rubbed her back and I can feel little bumps on here, tried pics but cant see these bumps. U can see up close when you're up to the tank and u can feel bumps all over her back. Is thi something I should be worried about? And if yes, what meds can I use/? Guidance plz!!

What kind of ray is it?
Motoros and most rays naturally have bumpy skin, kinda feels like heavy grit sandpaper, nothing to worry about.(I believe scobine and orbignyi are 2 smooth skin potamotryons I know of, there are probably others)
I'm more concerned that a newly acclimated ray lets you touch it. You don't want to disturb a new ray too much until it settles in, make sure it starts eating before you start handling it. I wouldn't touch it and handle much at all in fear over stressing it out or even for yourself you don't want to get stung.

P.S. and be careful about getting wacked, you'll be in a whole world of pain if you do.

sounds like a rays skin to me....

careful petting that new ray...if it lashes out it wont be funny.

heheh thanks guys for the quick response.. So I have no worries? I have a female motoro, She is at 7 inches across. she has more spots than a reg motoro I see at the lfs.. I payed a good price for her, cheap I mean.. She is awesome! I am picking up another female and a male soon! So I should'nt worry about the bumps? yea it is kkinda like a sandpaper skin sorta. hehe I wil post pics! thanks again!

thanks dmopar, shes my first! I have owned retics and a few hystrix in the past. But I like the motoro, more hardy and easier to get eating compared to the retics.Pictures soon when camera battery is full...

Lol, seriously, i say retics are easier to care for, since motoros need such a huge ass tank. If you're planning to have 3, I really hope you have a big tank/pond.

really? wow I guess it was just me then. he e retics are harder for me, I have a buddy here that works at an acrylic shop.. he's been there for 25 years and still there. He will hook me up on acrylic.I currently have her in with my 2 angelfish and 4 silver dollars in a 210 gallon tank. is it big enough for her? If i dont get 2 more I at least am getting a male motoro, I just need to settle again then I am wanting to get acrylic sheets from my buddy and he then wil help my build a ray tank in the basement....
