well i got a new ray in this afternoon and he has mainly stayed in the same place not moving around too much. well finally he came up to the front of the tank and around his anus and feet it is very red kinda blood shot looking. lights have been off since he arrived i did a water change last night and another today. i added salt and prazi also temp is at about 82 i also removed half the substrate so that half the tank is barebottom is there anything else i can do for this little guy? he is very small and dont want to lose him. if he ever comes up the front side again i will snap some pics, but he mainly stays put also he is not breathing hard or showing any sign of any stress or anything else. i love the kiss method so i dont want to add any crazy chems but if you have any idea of what causes this or how to treat let me know. thanks

well after figuring out the right words to search im thinking one possibility could be ammonia burn from shipping... still looking for other causes though. i remember seeing a few pics that look like it but its been a long time and i dont remember what the threads were about.

Probably ammonia burn. I would do some water changes and get the prazi out of the system. Dosing a ray with prazi when it first goes into the tank is not a good idea. It is always better to wait a couple of days and let the ray settle in. The redness will go away in about a week with just clean water. The salt will not hurt anything. Just keep a close eye on the redness and make sure it doesn't get worse and make sure the disk doesn't erode.

Thanks for the reassurance and advice I just couldn't find much with my searches and wasn't about to type in any form of bloody anus on a google search lol. He is chewing on food now so Im hoping he will be eating and getting better soon

Well at lunch time he ate one cut of fish it was decent sized so that makes me feel better. He didn't eat anymore but one is better than none and it was tilapia so I'm happy about that. I'm also getting a pound of blackworms in today. when I get home I will look from under the tank to see his belly if he ever goes onto the bare side.

Good luck with him. If he is eating tilapia, I wouldn't bother with the blackworms.

Well that's what I thought but now I have a pound of them for a just in case type deal. I went ahead and threw them in there any way as I don't want to waste $30 my other fish will eat them but he showed no intrest in them just tilapia and one cut of krill also nothing else so far. Also his redness went down alot it did look like he was bleeding or something now it's down to white disc and I can see a few veins around his feet and mouth. But it looks so much better.
Any other ideas on food? I have never seen a Ray turn down night crawlers and blackworms. I have also tried ghost shrimp, blood worms and I guess I could try a silverside. He is just not constant on the tilapia and I want to see him eating more. Lights still off, temp at 82 and water changed every other day.
