i have a spare 125 and i want to get 2 stingrays...i would like to know what the smallest freshwater stingrays are and their prices...also their possible tankmates...thanks in advance

There really aren't any FW rays that will fit in there for life, but maybe a couple years. Hystrix and reticulated stingrays are probably the smallest. You can probably find retics for around $75 or so, maybe a little more. Hystrix will probably be more like $2-300

I've heard hystrix make fine starters. Retics can as well if they are captive bred. Motoros tend to be the best starters, but they also get much bigger.

It's not so much the size but being able to keep the water suitable and stable, rays are not as tolerant of things like ammonia spikes and high nitrates as other fish are. You really need a much larger tank even for the smallest rays. imo

Retics are relativly small (30" or more from tip of disc to tip of tail), however I agree with what everyone else says about having what seems like too much tank for even one.
I'm pretty good at keeping my water clean, so I tried a retic in a 120. I put tons of work into water changes and monitoring..... needless to say my ray died and I never even saw what happened. IMO you do need lots of water to keep fluctuations minimal.
You could try your 130, I think the footprint is big enough, but you would have to do something crazy like have a 100g sump with the tank. That would put you up to 230g and might be 'easy' to keep up.....

I hope you do decide to get rays. I had mine for about six months and I was just fascinated by it everyday. I plan to do it again once I have the space and support for a DIY tank!
