So for christmas I got a 6ft 125 gallon tank and I "picked it up today". I put quotes around that because I had to drain the tank, dump the gravel, remove the fish, on my own. Then I had to scrub all the nasty grime and black crap out of the two emperors out of it along with the rest of the equipment. The tank and stand was also had this crusty stuff on it. It took me about an hour. Im exhausted and I am sure the fish are too. I got a huge red devil(maybe 8-10") and I think it's a male. He is very placid and is actually quite shy. his mate died(killed?) long ago and he ended up mating with one of his children who is around 5". The smaller devil is in my 55 with my nics who continue to stay divided. I thought having the small devil would unite them and although individually they can handle the small devil well, they show no signs of a pair and seem to be forever separated. I am beginning to loose hope that they will work it out. The 6 meeki in the tank are starting to mature and getting pretty nasty also. They are around 2".

I have never had a devil before for I never had the space. This guy despite his placid nature Is a great fish and I am beginning to love this little amphilophus. Unfortunately depending on what I do I might be giving him away soon. The tank was for my nics but they just aren't getting along. So I might be looking for a a new species something that forms strong pair bonds. Any suggestions?

Anyways here is the big guy. Still a bit stressed but he is coming around. sorry for rambling...

Cool, he has coloring simular to mine, but you can really tell the difference between the RD and the Midas with yours vs. mine.

I have noticed despite his size he shows no signs of a nuchal hump. Although he still is probably a hybrid maybe he is more labiatus then citrinellus but I am not expert on amphilophus.

Thank you :). Depending on what I plan to do he might not be with me for very long.

cool fish. the more time you spend by the tank... the more the RD will get used to you. You will find these fish have great personalities. i hope you keep it. :)

So far he shows more aggression if anything else but he is a great joy to watch. I added some buenos aires tetras no more than 2" to the tank and he is doing very well with them and hasn't even bothered to chase them. The two plecos that came with him are also in the tank now. I will definatly be getting rid of them for they are commons and I don't want to deal with the extra bio-load. He is still very placid and likes to be in his caves I made for him. I have never liked the maniacal glass banging that i see alot of devils display so his behavior is a welcomed relief.

And can someone fix my video? I can't figure out why it won't work.
