I got a full grown red devil (about 10" long with a small tennis ball size koch) 10 days ago and he still hasn't eaten! I tried market shrimp, bloodworm, goldfish feeders and aro pellets but he just ignores everything.

He is in a 50g tank (3'x18"x18") by himself until I can get his 80g (4'x2'x16"h) set up. I know that 50g is too small for him but it is only temporary. Are there any tricks to get this fish to eat? I've read that fish won't starve themselves to death but I'm starting to get worried.

I've tried flakes but I haven't tried sinking pellets yet. I will have to wait until this weekend when I can drive to the city to get some. I live and work in a small town and the nearest pet store is 100 miles away. I think he might be eating the aro pellets after they sink but it's hard to tell as the filter may be eating them instead.

He finally ate! After 2 weeks of being picky, he finally ate some sinking pellets. At least I know he won't starve to death waiting for his new tank, an 80g with center overflow. It should be ready in a couple of weeks.

good to hear, I always start my fish on floating pellets the day I get them and if they don't eat it I try sinking pellets the next day. It usually never fails.
