New Red Dragon & Kok Growth

Hey everyone this is my new 4" Red Dragon X.
I am new to flowerhorns and was wondering does anyone know how to improve kok growth or is it purely based on genes? Thanks

Nice fish. Good fins, tail, color, flowerline. Can you get a better picture? Will give us a better idea of kok and pearls.

I'd say lighten up the background and substrate to maintain color. Varied diet high in protein will benefit head growth. That's a nice looking fish and at 4" he looks like he'll get a decent kok. Congrats.

This is after taking the gravel out so he has lightened up abit. Thinking about putting it back in though. Feeding Hai Feng Ever Nature so the red should come out alot bolder soon.
