I found a new fish store (new to me anyway) in my area last week I went in to see them this weekend because they are ordering me a delhzi. I was very giddy to see thier stock it was varied and reasonbably priced. I have always wanted geos but none of the store in my area (big box pet stores) carried them. They had a few choices there tho including red hump wild caught geos so I baught what I hope is a pair. Here is the bigger of the two I am hopeing to be male since it is already developing a hump at barely 2 inches

The other is a little over an inch. so they are growing out in my community tank for now. They were $12 each. Cant wait till they are big enough for my other tank they will look gorgeous against the black sand.

Nice score, especially from a lfs.

When you call them "red head" geos, most people think of red head tapajos, a different fish. Yours are normally called "red hump" geos. If your store called them red heads, probably means they don't know much about geos. Looks like they're going to be nice.

I agree, looks like one of the "red hump" group, as opposed to the "red head Tapajos" altifrons type. They work well if your water is harder, more mineral rich than the Amazonian soft water species. I have found they do well with a harum of 1 male to 3 or more females, because the males can be relentless with only one choice, and harass her to death.
Here in Panama Geophagus crassilabrus is common on both coasts, and tolerates pH up to almost 9 in Lake Gatun, and the Canal zone. It is the northerly representative of the Geophagines.

They called em red hump (typed it right in post but not in title) I just typed head instead of hump.

He is two inches thats all perspective with the brick I have my tanks on low boy stands and I was standing up. the bricks are for my rams they like the holes to hide in. trying to find some good holey rock for a reasonable price then I can ditch the bricks.

Wish I could add a few more hoping for females but I am gonna be fairly heavy stocked when everything I have grows up.

Thanks for looking.
