hey all!
I just purchased 2 super red parrots about 2" long, when I arrived home I carefully acclimated them and 3 clown loaches in my already established (well maintained) 55gal w/2 Uarus and 3 Silver Dollars. The clown loaches are swimming around fine and appear happy..however the two parrots are laying on the sand in the corners of the tank with fins spread and not moving at all except for gills, no one is bothering them but they look as if they are going to die...could they be in shock? anyone see this before? any help appreciated...thanks!

What temp is your tank? do you have another tank? they are very hardy. Grab one and move it back and fourth to aid its breathing, if it starts to swim, they are just in need of more dissolved oxy. I NEED to know the temp of your tank.....

thanks for replying...tank temp is about 80 degrees...there are also two airwands powered by a whisper 60 pump...when I attempt to move the parrots with the net they will move away but not too quickly...they are breathing with fins spead and eyes pointed down as if sleeping..

how long have they been in their tank? if you just put them in ur tank, then they might not yet recovered, they still might be stressed.. give it 2-5 days and post us.. and feed them after 2 days yet,,, thats what i do with new arrived fishes in my tank..

I moved the parrots to a 15 gal with a few medium angels...they explored the tank for a while then went back into the same shocked condition...but are still alive...they were in the petstore tank for a few weeks...a 10 gallon that didn't look too clean with about 4 other parrots..other than laying hidden in the corners...their color and finage looks great...keeping fingers crossed that they make it..any other tips greatly appreciated..thanks

You are doing a good job as it sounds. Osmotic shock is in fact what this sounds like. I would suggest a slow drip in the future, when you purchase from this store.....

try to put some aquarium salt too.

one of the parrots is starting to eat and the other one is looking at the food..but they still hide on the bottom of the tank behind driftwood...
