I have a approx. 7" SVENI, and he has always been shy and quiet, but today I put in a "RED PIKE" about the same lenght, just not as "wide/heavy" as my SVENI, almost instantly they began to "mouth-wrestle", its on and off, and both fish seem to "win" once in a while...I have some pics to post if you want to see, BUT, I do NOT like it, is this normal and OK, or is this maybe a death of a pike in the early stages? Please respond ASAP...Thank You

and now it seems to be tail biting, the SVENI which i fiqured to be the "winner" due to its size and the factt that its his home. is just chasing the red pike which doesnt seem to still wanna fight...will the SVENI give up and allow him to live thier?

From what i have learned of pikes they can be very territorial and aggressive towards other pikes. IMHO your established pike is not willing to give up his reign on "HIS" tank. They may come to an aggreement on who's in charge through this wrestling and things may settle down, but if gets too ugly I would move 1 of them to another tank or return it to the store.

Try taking out both fish.. rearranging your tank.. and then introducing the new one first so the first one thinks hes in a different home

Thats a good idea in addition, also try leaving the lights out till the next day

please dont do either. best to take the red and put it in another tank. Once pikes get that size its death to contenders.
no it's not always if the tank is big enough rearrange the tank what other tanksmates do you have you may need to add some other dither fish to disburse the aggression.

Mmmmk, you keep the pike in there...when it gets killed, taz and I will both say I told you so.

Crenicichla = HIGHLY CONSPECIFIC!! I don't know HOW MANY times i've told people that if you have an established pike, DON'T ADD JUST ONE PIKE IF ANY! The aggression is too high and you will get either a reallly stressed out fish or a dead one. Either introduce them as groups, introduce them at the same time, or don't introduce them at all. Taking them out, rearranging the tank, and then puttin them in isn't gonna do jack. The moment they see each other they will immediately show aggression. Since the pikes are relatively close to the same size they might make an altimatum...but your pushing your luck.
