I can't speak to the remora..... but....I do have experience with protein skimmers.
1st, if your water is very clean, there might not be enough impurities to produce foam right away.
And I see you have bubbles, but it may take some time to build up enough DOC before it foams up and over into the cup.
is your pump on at full capacity? Sometimes if you have the outflow split up to other filters or things like a UV, it won't foam.
All power must be sent to the protein skimmer?
I use a DIY skimmer with a 1200gph pump full into the skimmer, and some days there is not enough DOC to produce foam on my pond, some days it's gonzo.

Also is there a valve to throttle the out flow? I sometimes have to throttle the back on the outflow to allow the foam to rise in the tube.
See the red valve, it adjust outflow, and is sometimes very sensitive

....too much flow=no foam, just right foam everywhere

Skimmers take awhile to break in, depending on organic load, salinity, etc, some breakin faster than others, Remoras which I have experience with will usually take a bit longer, usually a week or more attibuted to oils, etc. Be patient and good luck.

its funny that just today as i was doing my fredh water top ff i saw an oil looking layer on top of my water . i have n idea where it came from my wild guess its from the plastic from new canister filter and skimmer . i took a good bit of it out with a cup by skimming to top of the tank and will probably do more tomorrow. Thanks for your input guys
