I saw this filter at petsmart tonight, did not have time to read it as I was Christmas shopping. Anyway, I went to the factory site, no specs , also went to big Al's no listing. I'm interested for my grow out tanks as it appears its a canister w/o hoses and HOB, up to 200 + gpH...looked priced right too...anybody have any knowledge of this new Rena filter series or links??? Sorry cannot remember the model #...::nilly:

I was looking at the rena HOB filters at my lfs. They only have the 110 GPH filter, but it is a wet dry filtration, and looks pretty well designed. I've been happy with my other rena equipment that I have used, so I'm going to try one out soon.

Actually I 've seen the biggest they make rated for a 55 gal tank and approx 250 gph....but yes...still small water volume capacity for a hob!!! they also make 2 others rated for a 10 gal and 30 gal i think....obviouslys less gph and volume!!!

someones has got to buy one and do a review.....Not It!!:)

They had three distinct models at petsmart, after work today I am going back to get some more information. The top of the line model was around 69.00 USD down to 39.00 USD...I was hoping to find on line to see if I could get them to price match.

When you say HOB, are you meaning a overflow that hooks to the side of the tank?

Latest one I can find is the XP4, interesting specs...finally honesty.

Description:

The Filstar XP Canister Filters are powerful filters for fresh or saltwater aquariums. The filters are easy to set up, maintain and clean. The filter's easy to operate anti-airlock system allows for self-priming, uninterrupted operation and prevents filter shutdown.
The filter also features flow control, an adjustable inlet, and a single control quick disconnect for easy maintenance. The inlet and outlet can be used together or at opposite ends of aquarium. The multi-use filtration basket provides large filtration capacity. The basket has handles for easy removal and maintenance. The Multi-Stage Filtration has bypass-free circulations which guarantees that all water flows through the filter media and not around it, ensuring a cleaner aquarium.
The filter also has a unique sediment collection chamber for removal of wastes. The chamber improves filter efficiency and reduces clogging. The filter's large Rubber Base suppresses vibration and noise, providing quiet operation.

No it appears to be a canister type filter that hangs on the back of an aquarium like an AC500 or Emp 400.. no hoses or 2 ft differential required like the XP series

It looks like a black box with a bunch of stuff in it much like every other HOB. If I needed a new filter, I would try it but I don't so I won't. I will however investigate for all of you so that we know what it does and makes it special.

By they, I follow the grammer rule that it goes back to the last person, or entity. So 'they' means the LFS.

I will be purchasing the model as it is only 13.99, and I need a small filter.
