Found a guy, on Craigslist, that was selling some various reptiles...including a 4 year old Savannah Monitor and a female, 09 Retic.

I've wanted a Retic forever and Heather has wanted a Savvy forever, so I emailed the guy. He said that he was looking for a subadult female albino Burm and, coincidentally, I'd just taken in one, as a rescue.

So, we meet up with the guy, today, to trade. He's pulling the sav out of the car and I hear his little girl say "Bye, Stumpy!" I thought...kind of a wierd name, till I saw the poor pitifuly thing. lol!

We've since renamed him Nubbs, but I think it fits, nicely. He's very well tempered, but still getting used to the new surroundings...

His stubby tail doesn't seem to bother them and as far as I know, it shouldn't really cause any ill effects. The guy never told me he was missing his tail, so I have no clue how it happened.

But, here's my new baby...

I think the trade for the albino Burm was well worth it for this Retic alone. But, Nubbs is pretty cool and Heather already loves him.

I think her colors are fantastic!! And, seeing how well the dude took care of Nubbs, I'm glad we got this one so young. There's really no chance for growth stunting. So, give me a few years and this girl should be somewhere around 16' - 18' and weigh in around 150 - 200lb....maybe a little larger.

Thats one fat savannah, what are you currently housing him in? To get him back in shape get him in with a 130-150F basking spot and only feed a little until he looses that fat.
Nice retic

We're gonna treat him, diet wise, just like we did with our Croc. High basking heat, less food intake and excersize. Our Croc has lost half of his body fat and his now a lean, muscle ripping, horse.

When we got this Savvy, he was EXTREMELY cold, so we're leaving him in this rubbermaid, with constant, low heat. Tomorrow, he goes into his 6' x 2' x 3' enclosure.

The guy said it'd had eaten two small mice.

Not sure she's ready for the "small" rats we have, but we'll get her on rat pups, ASAP.

That's a fantastic retic, easily my favorite python. I'm going to guess that Stumpy's tail nip happened a loooong time ago as a hatchling, possibly during importation. I'd have asked, but it's pretty clearly an old wound.

They owesame, both;) Imshure you will give them the good home they deserve:D

I was too busy talking Burms and Retics and asking about the tail slipped my mind, while we were talking in person.

I did email him, last night. At first, I was under the impression that he'd had this Savvy for the entire 4 years. But, he said he bought it from his brother in law...whom bought it already with the stub tail and scar on its back.

So yeah...it's definately a very old wound. I thought it was probably a sibling, who got a little over anxious.

It certainly doesn't slow him down...this little guy can move.

Dont bother thinking about it, its a healty lizard thats all that matters;)
