Just rescued a giraffe catfish from a 300 litre (80usg) he's about 10-12" and looks ok to me but that's a small tank for a fish this size and it didn't look well maintained. He won't eat ATM is this normal?

Here is a couple of pics

He looks normal, usually fish don't eat if you move them from one place to another. Just give him time.

That's good :) yea I figured that's what it is but I like to get a second opinion, especially because the poor guy wasn't in the best of conditions. Thanks :)

As say he looks normal on the outside but if was in tight quarters and bad water quality for a while he could be a bit stunted. But that's something time will tell too. Keep us updated on how he does.

The guy said he had him for about a year and he was brought at about 2" judging by the size he showed with his fingers lol I know that's a lot slower that it would in good conditions but I'm not sure when it changes from slow growth to actual stunting. I will keep it updated :)

That's not too bad a growth, 2" to 12" in a year.

As mentioned several times recently, the genus is a taxonomic limbo. I'd keep that in mind.
