Curse my soft side, lol

Someone offered me a tiger shovelnose catfish that they didn't want anymore, said it was 5 inches.

A little bigger than 5 inches (more like 7-9) and skinny! Probably one of the skinniest catfish I've ever seen. He's in my 80 gallon with two oscars and a royal pleco, temporarily until he's healthy enough to get a good permanent home.

Is there anything I need to watch for? I will be offering thawed silversides in a few minutes, I'll update to tell if he eats...

Also, I was told he was skinny because the cichlids he was with were bullying him and preventing him from eating...

That tsn is supermodel skinny. Super market tabloids are taking pictures of it skinny. Eat a grape and it busts thin. The bum down the street goin dang you thin.

Good luck putting some meat on its bones. I hope you give it plenty to eat and a good home.

He ate one single silverside and called it quits. A little bulge in his belly is better than none!

Plus, he took if from tongs.

Good luck! Not looking good at all.

Good job! This fish has used up every bit of the internal reserve it had save for bones and skin. It will need much TLC and very close observation. Good thing it does not look sick, just skinny and tattered. Solo tank'd be the best or at least, as you started, target feeding and making sure there is no bullying.

That poor fish. :(

I hope he pulls through. You're doing a great thing by saving him. I look forward to further updates. :)

Omg! What a mess! Good job on the save bro!

If he is eating then he wants to live, if you could get him eating pellets then he will put weight on more

also its rtcxtsn hybrid, It's hard to tell with the condition he is in but the head and tail shape and also the spots make me think this...
