I picked up a pretty little lady for my male retic and the pattern made me wonder if she even was a retic at first. She almost looks like one of those "false flowers" from peru or whatever. Take a look and look how much different the male and the female are. Crazy, especially considering they are about the same size.

IDk but that is a tight ray

Thank you. I am assuming it is a retic but if it's something else that would be sweet! lol.

As you can see in the second picture it looks nothing like the other retic in the background

I have had 3 retic's and now the baby and they have all had totally different patterns. Your new pick up has an awesome pattern though and maybe she has something else in her. I know we always hear to keep rays on bare bottom or fine sand and mine are on fairly fine sand but more because I like the look of it than anything. I think like zoodiver has said before you will find rays salt or fresh on just about anything from rocks, coral, silt, mud, or sand. As long as it doesn't seem to bother the ray I wouldn't worry about it. It always amazes me the things some of us ray keeps do for our rays thinking it will be better for them, sometimes I take a step back and think "what was it like in the wild for them" I would like to know who detailed their shrimp, gave them pellets, made sure they only had fine sand, and then I laugh at my self and know they have a better chance of survival in my tank than in the wild, I love my rays and I know I baby them but come on people some of the things we do is just silly with them. Oh I have totally went off on a tangent I need to go to bed!

LOL nicole you're right, people do go to extremes without thinking what it was like in the wild! The male retic has been in that substrate for about 5 months and there has been no problems so I am going to leave it. I haven't noticed his belly getting red or anything so I am not worried about it! I can't wait to see this little girl get bigger. I know retics loose their pattern as they get bigger but maybe she wont. ......Hopefully :)

Oh and the male is about 6 or 7" and the female is about 4 1/2"

Well if ya ever decide to get out of rays I would sure take that little lady off your hands :) I am just a hop skip and a jump from you. Maybe I should head that way now hahahaha

Deffinitely both Retic,iv'e seen this variation quite commonly amongst shipments from Colombia.
Both nice patterns!
