i want to use some rocks that i found @ lowes. Im going to clean them well, put them in boiling water, then let them soak to check the water perimeters (ph ammonia nitrite nitrate). any objections ? advice ?

I have over 600 lbs combined in two of my tanks with no problems in either (one has been set up for over a year). I soaked the rocks for a few days (55 gallon trash can) then pressure washed them. Put them in the tanks and all is good.

In my experience the only problem with unknown rock is if there is metal in the rock that can damage a salt water tank and contaminate the water

copper would mess with saltwater, it wont mess with fresh.

oops! was going to post a few pictures before and after.

yep they look ok to me , i would boil and test but would imagine they are going to be fine

plus copper can effect both salt and fresh water its just on salt esp a reef the amount of copper needed to kill things is very small ,ie corals and invertabrates , most fish can tolerate much higher levels
