Hey guys i just got me a New fellah in the tank , due the death of my poor TSN i thaught a new little RTC would fit right in hes around 10 cm big and really "built" "fat" , now to the question , should i be worried about my Micro eating it ? i mean hes lets say 35 cm and the little RTC is 10 cm i gave the micro feeders just recently small Ciklid hybrids around 5cm he took em all , could be Redtail took one of them but i doubt it . the redtail is already showing hes attitude like they usally do , not scared if i try to feed it , he even tried to take over the crayfish`s cave swimming in it and had a go with him , most my fish gets freaked by the crayfish exepect my big micro . the RTC will grow really fast so it wont take long before the SH cant eat it . but for now he could take a chunk of him if he really wanted but with the redtails attitude and hes Width / size should i be worried? i know theyr really tough fish and not scared of anything usally smaller feeders swims away when they see my micro and that usally leads to him eating them , if he sees the fish doesnt react to hes size i guess thats a good sign ? should i try feed him shrimps asap to get him less hungry? anyway hes a pic of the lil fellah!

My Channa micropeltes is 35cm big (roughly messueared ) please type here , this is the post i wanted , the other one please delete any admin.

the main problem you have now is the following .

the micro will without doubt look at that as food , no doubt about it . there is a 50% chance that he will look and think its too big to eat and leave it for now. or will decide "yeah i can have him" this has a very good chance of turning out really bad . if he decides to eat that then there is a 50% chance he either bites it in half and you loose that cat or he will try and eat normally , if he eats normally the cat fish will without doubt errect its dorsal spines as its been eaten , it will get stuck and both fish will die .

this is a very real possability ,i have seen it done both 1st hand and in many other tanks .

catfish have no place in a snakehead tank there is simply two many risks involved with them .

didnt you allready get rid of one catfish because it would of eaten your red . all you have done is turn the tables but now you have made it so both will probably die.

you have also just increased the size tank you are going to need when adult two over double what you needed for just the rct . if you can trully aford to house both of these creatures at adult size ,i would honestly take back the rtc or get someone to grow it out for you , when both fish are around the same size you will stand a far better chance of that mix working .

i know you are looking for a bigger tank as we speak , but what size are you planning on ?

if you decide to keep it anyway , give the rct a solid cave where it can hide during the day and keep out the way of your micro . it will then only come out on an evening when the micro is less active , this may increase your chances ,but i really do think you should at least grow out the rtc in another tank for a few months

cheers col

The fact that juvi RTC is not afraid of SH does not mean that SH will not have a go at him. Like tropheus said, it happens (the biting fish in half by SH)....just check SH videos on youtube, there are not many vids where SH swallows the prey as awhole - usually it is bloody and messy death for the feeders. Grow out the RTC to have a better chance heheheh once RTC is up and running then your SH is a potential meal for RTC. Just a thought, I feed my RTCs SH (granted small SH).

Good luck anyway ^^ always interesting to see combinations

Hi, look I agree with tropheus but if you really think that they can be kept in the same tank, that leaves you one solution , try for a short period keeping them together and see how things work out.
