Had my RTG about 18 months hes about 20 inches now - i think I've got an agressive one , He was fine with his tankmates to start with but he seems to have picked them off one by one .

Any suggestions on what tankmates are a good match for him , He's in a 6x2x2 so i dont want anything that will outgrow this tank as i have no plans to upgrade at the moment .

I have already tried one small dat ( 5inches ) geophagus and a 13" plec & gar .

Would three dats be a good idea & what size ? i've been thinking also about silver sharks , tin foil barbs or silver dollars or maybe a Brasiliensis.
Has anyone had any experience with these & an RTG ?

Cheers

Steve.

A single big dat or several 6 inchers. Bichirs work well. Cats will be fine. Ripsaws or nigers, although when they start to hit max size, you'll want to find them new homes.

Larger pbass (6 inch +) would work, I think. :)

Silver dollars would work. I'm not sure he won't want to eat or kill sharks. I've tried a couple of slender silverish type fish and those did not work at all!

My RTG chases my geos so I'm not sure yours will behave any differently. Mine just chases to this point though.

Thanks for the reply mate, hes definitely bothered and bit two of the 3 geos that ive lost and definetely the dat,im growing 4 polys to go in with him they range from 7 inches to 12 inches but im worried that he will kill them straight away,i think im going to try some big clown loaches(over 7").

Do you think the tinfoils would be a better choice than the silver sharks or better still just go with some silver dollars, what do you think about the brasiliensis?I was thinking about pbass but i dont like the idea of growing a fish for years and then having to sell it as its too big?

cheers steve

It will be hit and miss with the geo. My RTG doesn't care about the severums I have in the tank, but chases the geos.

I think you'll have to experiment. RTGs are known to be aggro, but I do think different ones have different dispositions. I have no experience with tinfoils and my aro.

There's also the flag tail prochilodus (fei feng) to consider. But only one to a tank. They tend to like to kill each other. :)

I have a green 10" aro that is pretty aggro. I believe greens are more aggro than the RTG's. I've tried different tank mates for him with some failures.

He hates tinfoil barbs, king kong parrots, red tail giant gouramis. Both the rtgg and tin foil barb were in the tank before the green aro.

It seems to get along with my 6" frontosa, 5" flagtail, geos and clown loaches. It's never chased or even noticed these guys in the tank.

bichirs,RTGG/GG and certain sized catfish is fine and you should upgrade soon b/c ur aro is 20" and 4" more it can barely swim lol
