so i was planning on getting a nice L-14 but that didn't go through so i got a new little sailfin pleco. since im new to plecos i just thought i would see if i could get some advice from you guys. i got some good advice on my L-14 thread but thought i could get some more specific advice if i posted a new one just for the sailfin,

he is only like 1.5-2in right now and is chewing on the film on the back glass and on my driftwood. i put an algae wafer in there the other night and he didnt touch it, i think he is still too small to find it in my tank? or am i underestimating his algae finding skills? (i am continuing to put half a wafer in the tank at night but so far he hasnt touched them) i also wanted to know if you guys thought he was big enough to already start feeding zucchini and things like that or if i should wait until he is bigger and better able to find them, oh and he is spending a lot of time chewing on the driftwood, is he actually eating the wood like some plecos do or is he just eating any algae that is on it

so i saw him poo today and it started out a tannish color and then turned to a white color but wasnt stringy at all, could he have parasites? is pleco poo still supposed to be the regular reddish brown color or is his normal for a pleco?

why was this moved to the media lounge? it is only questions and no pictures...

It's hard to tell at this age, they tend to take awhile to adapt to food they have never had before. Give him some more time.

ok so his poo is now normal, i think it was just that color from being stressed from the move or not getting good food at the pet store, but he is doing well now and has come out to eat on algae wafers even with the lights still on (though i dropped them right next to him so he saw it right away) but now that i have him on the algae wafers im going to wait till he is a little larger and then try and introduce different things, other than zucchini what are good foods to try?

he will get a lot of nourishment from the driftwood for the next couple weeks/months. put some slices of zucchini, cucumber, or sweet potato in there and he will find them, once he realizes it is food he will be a glutton like most plecos. what size tank and what other fish is he with?

Mine loves cucumber but he wont eat lettuce. He is on the algae wafer the second after it hits the sand. Since you just got your sailfin in your tank you will need to give him some time to get comfortable. After he does and has grown a bit more he should be pretty active. Mine also eats a lot of driftwood!
