I've been reading all over the place, and everyone says different things. I'm setting up another saltwater tank. This one is 100gallons. In my current 50g setup I'm using the sand you can buy at your local pets store etc. you all know how that can get procy. my question is I'm looking for a way to cut down on cost for the sand for this tank and have read that pool pump sand
Works just as well? Is this true and is it truly safe for the fish?

Any input greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Salt water is the ONE kind of tank I really dont skimp on... I mean when I had sand in my tanks I used silica sand, 5 bucks for 40 lbs bag... If your setting up live sand from ur LFS allways helps. Just maker sure you have the water and salt in or you kill everything in the sand... alot of people dont know that dump in the sand then 100 gallons of fresh water on it thats either too cold or too hot... But yea ive allways used silica sand..

thank you i appreciate you response. im transfering a ray into this tank so no live corals or anything. you speak of silica sand. what is it? where can it be found? thank you again

Yeah I would use whatever sand you want, get the water ready, and then add a couple bags of live sand to help seed it.
