Ive got a couple questions about my saltwater tank. Its a 55 gallon. It has about 15 to 20 pounds of live rock that was dead when i added it and it has a marineland canister filter and a protien skimmer.Should i remove the canister filter and just use the skimmer and rock.To get rid of nitrates im planning on adding some more live rock in about 2 weaks and im curing about 50 pounds of agrocrete. The other day my puffer turned like a blrown color and he puffed up but today hes got his color back and seems to be doing fine.

how long has the tank been running? what is the nitrate level's now? leave the filter and protein skimmer and maybe do a good 30% water change and test after a day or two.

Not sure the nitrate level i dont have a test kit right now but will pickup one.Its 2 months old ive just changed 5 gallon so far planed on doing small changes since the skimmer seemed to be pulling alot of waste out.Guess ill keep the canister going then. Thanks for the help.

WOW I think that usually when puffers actually "puff" they are so stressed that they don't make it. Glad yours is... Hey, post some pics! I am a rookie, but am a firm believer in regular water changes, even with skimmer...

I dont know if theres any thing wrong with the water or he just got stressed for some reason i think hes just got p.ssed off at something. He had a rock he used to get behind and i pushed it up agaains the glass where he couldnt use it anymore not sure if it terretoreal the picture in my avatar is my old puffer he died ablout a year and a half a go he puffed up too so im not real good with thse fish i believe there delecate fish.
