Gettin 3 new scomb payara around 2.5" on thursday from shark aquarium.they will be going in a75 by themselves.how high should the water currents be for these guys? It currently has two ac 110s on it, with a hot magnum 250 and ive also got a rio 2500 pump if the water should be churning.do these guys do better with the high currents like armatus? Or should I slow things down a bit since they are so small?thanks in advance

Does anyone think that the unexpected deaths in these fish after 10"is related to water movement? That maybe they aren't being kept turbulent enough?

I've got one around 7-8" and there's only a light current in the tank and he's fine. He eats silversides, and seems pretty happy. So I think yours may do fine but if you have extra current etc. it's certainly not going to hurt. Just check to make sure they can handle the current.

I believe as juveniles they don't like current too much. When they mature, they come out and swim in the open water. If there's too much current, just make some dead spots for them to rest.. if they like the current, they'll come out. if not, you'll find them in that area.

after owning 3 payaras (all were about 5-6"), they looked like they hated strong current. My current one, about 8", likes some nice movement in the tank.

Well,i still gave the 2 ac110s running, and the hot magnum,i didn't turn on the rio2500.they seem to be fine, they all settled in beside the big rock I put in the middle to block current, but within an hour or so of being in the tank they were all in open water.the smallest, and he is tiny, had eaten the most, by the time I left for work tonight.
