What's the best and most inexpensive way to deal with having very hard well water? I just got a 125 gal tank and am looking forward to having fish again. Would running more than needed external filters remove the hard particles from the water as the tank cycles?

check the water parameters where you collect. they may be very similar to your well water.

My plan is to stock with native fish..... :)

Yeah if there native fishes then go test the water there from, I suggest bringing separate bottles if there from different lakes, pond, or rivers. But most likely if there near to you they have the same pH as you well water has.

Good advice, thank you...... I've also been reading through posts on other boards here and have gotten more ideas to follow, like collecting sand and gravel to start out with and if I do that, what would it hurt to bring back water too? Should definately cut down on the time it will take to cycle. Any ideas of how long it might take to cycle if I do bring in gathered sand/gravel and some water? I am not set up to be transporting a lot of water as I would have to do it all by hand, pail by pail, so what do you think would be enough to get everything started off in the right direction? How much filtration should I aim for?
