im looking to buy the python 15 gallon pond/water fall set up or i might go bigger havent decidie that yet but here is my idea i wanna build a pretty masive terrarium that will have a pond for turtles a few plants mabey some goldfish but the whole encloser will be filled with live plants for my boa hes 5 foot and this set up im designing will hold him quite well for life for awhile i was an avid indoor gardner i have many ho flouesence plus some hid lights i was thinking of using my 400watt metal halide and possible the 260?? hps i think that might be overkill but i have to figure out what kind of plants ill put in the pond and finally the rant is over and my question is will the MH or HPS provide UVA or UVB for the turtles
any help or ideas greatly appreciated thanks in advance

Nic :)

My concerns lie with the 'wet' aspects of your plan. I'm sure you're well aware that turtle have a terrible reputation for being dirty, smelly, creatures. While this is generally false, without proper care, it is an all-to-common reality. Filtration is going to be a serious issue. Compatability may even become a problem. A boa and turtles are going to be headed for the same resources.

If I were to do it, I'd lose the turtles.

i didnt think they would bother each other but metal halide and hps source of uva or uvb im not concerned with a smell from the turtle the tank he is in now has no smell and slightly overstocked it has a fluval 203 and a whisper in tank filter the pond would have some serious over kill filtration plus plants cause the boa would periodically go there to drink any other feed back on this idea :feedback:

I dont think that they produce the proper light spectrum but you can easily overcome this with a $10 48" flourescent shop light and a couple of $5 GE full spectrum bulbs.

Also the turtles and snake will be fine togather. I would worry more about the snake getting mites from the plant substrate.

i have neem oil and alot of other natural insecticides so mites wont be a problem i know the bulbs most are 6500k i could always do a merc vapor a few times a week for uva and uvb
