So I am about ready to switch my 65 over to the 125. I have had the 125 half full since monday running a bubbler and powerhead. The ammonia is around 1. My question is will this drop very soon after I add the fish, the rest of the water from the 65 and two established filters, an emp 400 and xp3 with a lotta media?

Also I was wondering if i should just buy a small packet of Bio-Spira just to get the new sand in the 125 some BB.

Let me know your thoughts

Also if i were to take the Xp3 which is very well established, and run it on the half full 125 would this seed the sand and reduce ammonia, or would it destroy the BB inside the filter?

I would fill the 125, and switch the fish and the filters at the same time (temperature matched). Make sure the water is dechlorinated and go for it. Your filters should keep up because you dont have an increased bioload. I never worry about sand or bacteria that might be in the water. If I have an established filter, I have an established tank. (as long as the filtration is rated for that size of a tank/bioload)

Agreed 100% Rally.

A $20 package of biospira can't hurt anything, only help, so I'd throw it in a day or two after the swap.

The half filled 125 is for sure dechlorinated. I treated it monday and it has been bubbling and turned over via a powerhead. So it should be fine.

So Rally I shouldn't worry about the ammonia in the half filled 125?

I put a small JD in the half full tank last night and he is doing fine today.

I was planning on bagging the fish and getting them use to thier new setup for about 15 mins, Should i still do this if i have the tanks within a degree or two of each other?

Also The 125 is built into cabinets and is much higher about 1.5 feet higher than the top of my 65. How would i syphoon upwards into the 125?
