Im interested in setting up a new shark tank for marbled catsharks in the near future and would eventually like to start breeding them (if possible).
As ofright now I do not have anything setup and would like information in order to steer me in the right direction. Now I am a new college student with limited funds so top of the line is out of the question.

What can I do to get started with the setup and other things I might need to start my dream?

I am very advancd in care with saltwater fish for I have cared for almost everyspecies there is.

Well - breeding Marbled Catsharks - is certainly very possible. And one that could likely be done on a fairly limited budget.

It all depends on the setting planning. For example a small Poly pond (6' diameter- roughly 300-350 gallons) may run between $200-$500. Or even a small homemade "Koi" pond - with a good pond liner would be a good option. Compared to a Glass,Acrylic or Fiberglass tank, which would be much more expensive.

A good source for the supplies you would need to set up a system for breeding Marbled Catsharks can be found here -

"Every species there is" might be a bit of a stretch huh :D

As for breeding catsharks, I've done it. You need a lot of horizontal space, and a group of sexually mature adults (7 or more, I'd start with 5 females, 2 males).
When you build your main system, I highly suggest building a pup tank that is plumbed into it, but seperate. When they lay the eggs, you can suspend them in the pup tank until they hatch. This will ensure they don't get eaten by the adults. I'd also suggest low light situations for the tank. They seem to do better that way.
