Hey all, I'm new here but not to the hobby. I am in the planning stages of a 2300g small-shark tank and don't know which route to take, EPDM, FRP, Pond Armor, or something else all together? All advice is appreciated. Also,if FRP do I use gelcoat or PA over it? That's where I'm leaning so far. Also, silicone or ? at the window?

I've been a general contractor for 33 years so the structure will come natural ie... 2" welded angle iron frame lined with 2 layers of plywood. So far I'm thinking a 6' skimmer, 3-400g sump w/tons of LR and LS, a couple of mechanical filters and maybe 1 or 2 fluidized bed filters on a closed loop(separate from sump loop). Both loops are powered by a couple 6000gph pumps(external). It will be native sharks and fish. When the sharks outgrow I will build bigger....or let them go, probably the former. It's all going in my new warehouse apartment I am building. I have a second living room wall saved for the future full grown tank. Thanks, Kcon (pronounced Kay-con)

PS, I have owned a few reef tanks and a small native tank (successfully, except when my toad fish ate everybody:grinno:

Oh yeah, what is a good cheap product for lots of bio media for the big sump? Thanks again, Kcon

I just read up on pond armor and it says it sticks to plastic so I think I will put 2 layers of FRP for strength and a layer of PA last, but I'm still open to ideas........Kcon

Sanitred I is! If those claims are real this tuff could seal the Hoover Dam. I would still like to hear answers to my other Q's. Thanks Kyle

Sorry, what questions? For fibreglass? If so, I'm not knowledgeable on that.

But I can tell you that if you go with Sanitred, you won't need either silicon or fibreglass.. they have a primer that will let you seal the Sanitred straight to your glass or acrylic window. Advantages= adheres better to the window than silicon, has better flexibility, and if you ever did have to reseal you can get away with redoing the spot that leaked as it adheres to itself with no issues. vs silicon where you have to completely strip back down and/or remove window to redo.

And instead of fibreglass, Sanitred has an LRB base product (liquid rubber base) that you can use as either a crack and seam filling or shapeable putty or a self leveling liquid or anything in between.

Plus its hugely scruff resistant, comes in a ton of colors and is very easy to work with.
