Hello first off to everyone and monsterfishkeepers.com, seems like a very nice site :) I keep large jack dempseys, convicts, plecos, severums, etc....

So anyways I repaired my 55 gallon a few years ago, it had a crack across the bottom plate of glass, so I siliconed pieces of glass i salvaged from another tank to the inside and the bottom underneath, anyways it's leaking again and I can see where I did not have the silicone thick enough and rocks eroded it back from vacuuming gravel, etc.

anyways I picked up a 66gallon, with 1" board for under it, this is nice at it will fit perfect on my nice steel stand, but the silicone is pretty old in this tank, and I can see air bubbles in it, even though my friend said it holds water, it's rough, someone redid it before.

I plan to cut all the old silicone out (but not between the pieces of glass) then clean it all, mask with painters tape, silicone it then pull tape for beautiful finish.

What i'm wondering is will GE type I silicon be okay for this tank? it's the door and window stuff in blue tubes.

It's seriously hard to locate anything good for a good price here, the GE was 5 bucks a tube, I have a few.

Think i'll be okay? i'm proffessional painter/caulker so it will turn out nice.

Thanks for listening to me go on and on here...............

As long as it doesn't have the mold prevention stuff in it, you're good to go. I believe the GE type I is 100% silicon with no additives unlike type II which I know for certain has the mold prevention additive.

I've resealed more tanks than I can count. The key is getting a smooth even seal on the first pass. You can always tell the tanks that people used their fingers. I've used a number of things around the house; spoons, carved piece of paint stirrer, etc. I'm going to get https://www.buyprocaulk.com/?s_kwcid=xpress seal pro|1801932229&gclid=COro-v-465cCFQ60Hgod6mzHCg for the 10 or so tanks I have that need to be resealed. (Not for the caulk included, but for the tools to make the seal nice)

Be sure to remove any residues from the glass with distilled white vinegar and of course, don't use any other kind of cleaners on the glass.
