Well, after a lot of research, along with a thread or two in the forums, I finally decided to buy an Arowana. He's currently in my 125 sans the Albino Oscar; had to move him to a 56 gallon temp. as he and the Arow wern't getting along.

My question here is, what is the black spot that he has on his body? It looks like about 3 of his scales turned dark; and after searching through google, I didn't see anything that looked like it. He only has the spot on one side.

Has anyone seen this before? Has anyone here had a silver that did something similar? Is it something I should worry about? How should I treat it if necessary?

His diet consists of twice a day feedings of Hikari floating food sticks (about 5 or 6) as well as a piece or two of Hikari freeze dried Krill, with crickets once a week. He steals a flake or two as well as a food pelet every once in a while as well.

Tank temp. is 79.7
Parameters are good 10-20 nitrate like normal, everything else is at 0, water is a little hard.

To answer the tank question that I'm sure many of you are wondering about... he's not staying in the 125 after he reaches 15 inches (only about 9 now). There will be a 300gal 96"x30"x24" very soon.

Probably jumped and hit himself there. Just keep the water pristine and keep feeding him well and he will heal in time.

Thanks for the heads up!

^^^This...it happened to my aro when I moved him. It healed in about a week.

mine had that too. first it was dropped scale, so i thought it was okay and then the next day it got like bruises on the area where the scale dropped, ended up it was quite a serious ammonia burn. but it healed already.

Thanks for the replies, you have put my worries to ease. :)
