Help! I JUST bought 2 Silver Dollars & placed them in my tank, now they are just laying on their sides! The will move if the container(keeps them seprate from main tank till climatation is done) is moved, but otherwise just lay flat agianst the floor or walls, still & barely movign their gills otherwise. I keep thinkign they died

Are they dying? Was the ride home too rough? I noticed they are missing some scales from their head as well.

IF they die, should I call the petstore?

Need more info. Are they still in their bag?

Is there a large temp difference between your tank and the container you brought them home in?

Is the tank they're going into cycled?

The tank is over 2 years old & contains fish. Right now they are in a small hanging container inside the tank. I moved them from bag to container. Not sure about the temperture.

It will take them a bit of time to get acclimated to there new home. You need to what the temp is on your tank... you can buy the little thermometers to stick on the side of your tank for cheap at your LFS, they also have nice digital ones as well. What are the other fish? When was the last time you checked your params?

Oh, I know my tank's temp, I thought he meant the store's temp. Mine is about 82 C

They aren't with the other fish right now either, through they perk up abit when the rosy barbs circle the container

Thank you. They are fine & swimming round eating now. They perked up after a few hrs & really perked up when I let them loose with the other fish. Guess they just hated the shift in homes & not being with the other fish. Only thing left is for them to heal their fins(lfs had nippers)

I realized that when I bought 6 generic SD 4 months ago. When I put them into the tank they were playing dead. I was kind of worried cause I don't acclimate fish.

I only thought about it after reading some info that piranhas do it. They are related to each other.

I bought other kinds of silver dollars more recently like red hooks and one with spots on it that has a more oval shape that didn't play dead though.

They are all better now!

They were just faking as Mach-Six said. As soon as I released them in with the other fish, they started swimmign & looking for food. Still abit shy, but definatly a million times better now.
