hey guys, i just bought a proclear aquatics impact skimmer 200. its a downdraft skimmer with a venturi built in. it pushes 400 gph and is meant for a 200 gallon aquarium. i work in my lfs and ive never seen a downdraft quite like it. i set it up with a magdrive7, it took me like 2 minutes to get in my sump and running. never had it been that easy so im assuming i did something wrong but the foam is already starting to build up since last night. has anyone had experiences with this skimmer?
are downdrafts worth the extra money?
can it really be that easy?

Congrats on your new skimmer. I have never had a down draft typr. I have how ever had a becket and needle wheel.

yea, this is the first real skimmer that ive had. the other that i had was and airstone style. it worked for what i wanted, but i needed something better.

My buddy put inca mat in his down draft instead of the bio balls. It seemed to work alot better.

what purpose would putting bioballs in a skimmer have?

well a down draft skimmer has a tube that directs water down the shaft into the main chamber. The shaft contains bio balls usually they chop up the water causing a skimming action. He changed his out to inca mat and it worked alot better.

this is my skimmer, it didnt come with anything in the downdraft tubes.

Weird maybe yours just uses a venturi in the downdraft tube for the skimming action. Anyway good luck

thanks its already skimming a ton of gunk. im happy with it.
