I bought a red bay snook today and didn't realize until I got it home that it has a slightly cloudy eye.

I know meds and salt are recommended, but will it go away on its own without meds and salt and with good water quality?

I still believe clean water(nitrates under 10ppm). Adding salt may be helpful but I would dose daily with melafix after a water change. My female snook had the lens of her eye 75% detached and she recovered fully.

Adding salt to the water helps the fish to stabilize their system. basically it allows them to spend more energy on healing rather then maintaining their system. I had a albino Oscar at one time that came with it. I absolutely could not get it to go away no matter how clean I tried to keep the water. Once I added salt in the tank, it disappeared. I would def. recommend trying it, it does not hurt anything. Get a box of Kosher salt though, don't spend the extra money on aquarium salt, and I would not use table salt because it contains iodine.

Hope this helps...

Ok. It's no big deal for me to use melafix and salt. Thanks for your responses.
