I just got me a new baby Spotted Pike Characin yesterday. I know he isnt really a gar but this seemed like the best forum to post this in. Hes about 3inches with some unusual markings I named him wrath. Hopfully i do better with him the the needle nose gar. Ill post some pics later.

Nope... "Other Characins" would be more appropriate for a characin.

My bad guys I was overly excited its very very very hard to come across gars or close gar family members here in Fort Wayne. Alot of our stores are mainly saltwater.

I understand... and I've also kept spotted pike characins, I think they are very cool, much better than regular needle noses because of the exotic pattern and they get off live food easily... but when learning about your fish you'll realize it is not close to the gars at all. Remember... just because a fish is missle-shaped or has a snout/beak mouth does not make it a gar/gar relative (in fact the closest gar relative is the bowfin, haha).

just googled it and it came up with hejuta's and these guys Boulengerella maculata.... i hope u got the last one they look super cool!!!!!
