I just got a small teacup ray and was trying to get advice. He is around 5 inches wide.
I have him in a 40 Breeder for quarantine. I have 2 Fluval u3 filters inside the tank and a sponge filter with an aerator at the other end. The filters are all for around 100 gallons. Will this be okay for a few weeks. I will test the water daily and do weekly water changes. I have a 125 for him just trying to get it 100% ready. It’s a little cloudy because of the sand I added.

My experience w/ rays has been that as carnivores they produce a fair amount of waste and they’re a little more sensitive to water quality than I had been used to in other fish. If you have an FX6 for the larger tank I’d install it on this one and maybe throttle t back a bit (but not much). If you have a submersible heater put a cover on it and once the FX6 is properly colonized I’d pull the sponge out.

min unfamiliar w/ combination UV sterilizers and filters.

Oddly, they also seem to be sensitive to oxygen content which I never quite figured out.

On my 125 I have an fx6 on there. And is it normal for him to do this? His disc goes up and then he moves forward? Couldn’t attach a video

And one more question. I put some food in the tank and he just buried himself in the sand. I got him Monday night so I don’t know if he is still adjusting or what?

Hard to say but my suggestion would be to find out what he had been eating wherever you got him from and wait another day or so before you give him some of whatever he had been eating prior. Burying itself in the sand is normal behavior and not eating in new surroundings is common. Make sure you take the uneaten food out or it will botch your water quality.

I asked the lady and she said small pieces of frozen shrimp. So I got some today and gave it to him. I took out what he didn’t eat.

Also I’m going to do tile in the bigger tank. I’ve done some research and found that ceramic tile is the best. I’m deciding between black or white. Will one be better then the other for the colors of the ray or not?
