if I remove my last fish out of my existing tank to put 10 new discus in teh tank, how can I be sure there are no nasties left in the tank/filter?

If there are any are they transferred by the water column/filter or by the fish?

I don't really want to cycle a new tank... but I want to ensure the cycled tank has no harmful bacteria, pathogens etc.

What would you do?

I would disinfect the aquarium and filter, ornaments get rid filter media and start over. Also toss the substrate.

All so the fish you are moving from this aquarium should be placed in quarantine before placing in with other fish.
