My clown loaches came down with Ich a few weeks ago and I've dont the standard ^temp +salt but it's not working. I lost 6 out of 9 and the last three still have it pretty thick. I've successfully treated Ich many times and these are the first fish i've lost to it. Usually the Ich isnt visible after a few days but it's been week. I call a LFS that pretty reputable about curing fish diseases and they say there is a new strain of Ich and pops up faster and thicker and it's much more difficult to get rid of. Has anyone else heard of it? They say you have to treat with ^temp + salt and an antibiotic.

This New Super Ich has taken hold of my clown loaches but all my other fish are fine.

I would like to hear more about his new strain..Your avatar is pure gold...

take the loaches out and put them in a hospital tank to care for them properly and so not to infect the other fish in the tank

One last note on raised temperature treatment: If you follow the directions here thoroughly and have a subsequent outbreak without having added new fish or plants, you may need to try a different approach. It is possible to encounter a resistant strain of ichthyophthirius, as there have been rare instances recorded where the organism survived at 92ºF!

here's the link where it came from http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/ich.php

there's no real point in doing that since ich is already present in the tank.

The only other tank i have is tainted with copper

I just had something very similar happen to my loaches. They were almost completely covered with ich. I treated them for over a week to no avail. I lost 9 loaches!!! My other fish caught it as well but not nearly as bad and all survived. Loaches are more susceptible to ich anyway because they have no scales.
