Posting this in another thread so no to clutter up pics of the fish. Tadpole and Toad (AUL's) are housed currently in a 5x2x2 aquarium which was running on an fx5. While the water movement was great and the water parameters are great as well, the nitrates were getting high too fast so I decided to go for a big sump. I'll be purchasing a new tank late next year (tax time here in AU) and the plan is a 6x4x2 or 6x4x1.5 (as the depth isn't really that important in my opinion and I have really short arms!!).
Sump is 3x2x1.5 and designed in a very weird was as I wanted the overflow from the tank AND the pump going back to the tank on the same end of the sump. The end result is pretty funky and I really like it. The guy who built it for me will be coming out mid week to lower some of the overflow heights (as I want the operating height a little lower) but otherwise I'm incredibly happy with it. I put EVERY bit of collected media into it (about 500 bio balls, jap mat, black sponge and about 10 litres of Matrix) and I still have tonnes of space to fill. =)
Attached a few photos of the initial design, and then the sump installed. Video is of the sump running.
