new syno multi not eating

picked this guy up on monday, he's about 1" to 1-1/2". I'm trying to feed him wardley's sinking catfish pellets, all of my cichlids and my pictus tear it up. It swims up to the food, looks like it takes the smallest bite, and swims backs to the cave. food sits there.

So, should I go buy something else? I don't have anything else that sinks as a staple. Will he start taking it eventually and I should treat him like I would one of my cichlids?

It's a bit lengthy but if I had to guess the fish is still adjusting to both new water and diet, tankmates, etc.

What are you water parameters and how is the aeration?
