Hi There
Next month I am finally getting I bigger tank for my Africans and my current 120L will house Jack Dempsey.
In this 120L I have about 30 fishes, mostly males - OB comp
- venustus
- livingstonii
- fusco
- vc10
- fosso rostratus
This above guys will be the biggest of the tank:
Then I have a bunch of medium size haps, peacocks and few mbunas.
I can’t decide which tank to choose, I know the obvious answer - the bigger the better but its not as straightforward. Bigger tank means bigger initial cost as well as running cost. Another thing this is - 6ft tank will fit better in my room. But on the other hand I don’t want to be disappointed, and after a while again thinking about upgrade. Can you guys give me sone advice and maybe show some pics of both sizes??56675EF0-CA62-4F67-99B5-6B02BC6BC0FC.jpeg94083D78-E275-4EED-900C-9EF56F214A2E.jpeg07078F1B-36F3-435D-B21E-2F1F6A8BFC27.jpegACF641B0-20A1-4CF9-80BE-7128AA29C08C.jpeg

Yes the electric bill will go up but tbh it won't be that bad unless you're on a budget. If it going to take expanding a wall for the 220 then go for the 180.

I would not even consider housing those big fish in anything smaller than 72". I also like a max of 18 males in a 72" tank and THAT is when they mature at or less than six inches.

I would say the difference in running costs between the 6 ft and the 7 ft may be negligible. Initial cost will be higher on the 7ft among other reasons because it is a less common size so you may have fewer choices.
If the above aspects are not critical, and you can fit the 7 footer with not much of a problem (I wouldn't justify moving walls for it), then the 7ft would be my choice anytime. The extra foot will always end up being an advantage, especially with semi aggressive fish (or more).

I thought the 7 footer was no longer in production like some other large format tanks such as the deep dimensions series?
