Got a 35 Gallon tank from my neighbor close to a week ago. :headbang2
The tank hasn't been unused for many years now because she is unable to maintain it and it is in the way of the renovations being done in her house.

I haven't set the new tank up yet. I'm still in the process of thinking were to place it, then making a wooden stand then selecting decorations and substrate and all those stuff and then cycling. :nilly: I also haven't decided what fish to put in it. I want a wet pet and thought that the male con from my own 35 would be perfect.

I was thinking of starting to set it up this weekend but plans has changed because of my 1st ever rescue that happend today!:nilly:

I saw this juvy short-bodied Oscar hiding behind a sponge filter on a pet shop near my old workplace. It was the only SB on the bunch and was defenseless and continuously being harassed by the other Os in the tank and I felt pity on the little guy so I took it home with me and decided that it will be the one to go on the new 35.

I know that 35 is too small for an O, but mine has a short body and couldn't swim well so I thought that it would serve him well for life. But I could be wrong.

So here she is. Meet Mokona the chibi oscar!

He is currently staying in my HRP's 15 while I set the 35 up. Hopefully tomorrow so I can start Cycling already.

A 30g will be too small for life, and who's going to rescue the oscar from the 30g now?

Beutiful short bodied Oscar.......I would say an inexpensive 55g with LOTS of filtration will do for life......LOTS means 2 AquaClear 101's....If you can afford a a small canister filter then invest in one tooo....The whole setup should cost under $200.......

I love a good rescue story. But this makes me think if we keep buying these deformed fish they will keep breeding and selling them. Besides that it looks cute like a big head with a tail. I think your 30 gal will be ok for now but you will need a larger tank if he keeps growing.

Good job on taking him in the others would have killed him it sounds like.

She was the only deformed fish from the bunch, I doubt that the breeder intentionally bred the oscars to create this. Don't worry though, I don't intend to breed her. This is also the reason why I bought her, so that she could not be raised to breed.

Good call it's nice that she went to a good home.

But some people are trying to breeding short fish.
