I started a tank yest (60g) using biomax from another established tank and 20g worth of water from an established tank. Now, I rushed into it by putting in 40lbs of tahitian sand that was cleaned 10min/10lb. However, the tank is still dark and foggy from the sand and I was wondering if it would be safe to do a 50% water change or not. Before I put in the 20g, I did fill the tank all the way to do a 80% water change. Right now theres a 4" jardini in it.

I woulld put some very fine filter floss in your filter to take out some of the free floating particles

What kind of filter system are you running?

Has it settled some yet?

It takes time for the water to settle, keep the filter going, and it should clear up soon, you have a relatively big tank, so your filter just needs time to do it's job. It will clear, so i suggest you don't put any fish in it until it clears.

You should have waited until the water settled before putting the Jardini in. Hopefully it is a hardy fish and can survive the murkiness in the tank.

Yeah, I realized it was too soon but it was too late. I'm running an Aqua Clear 110. The water doesn't get any better so I will really need to clean it soon. The jardini is doing fine. It's eating right and all that good stuff.

I use two sponges in my AC filters when I want to remove more particulate matter.
